Matilda by Goose Island

Matilda. Belgian Ale. Goose Island Beer Company. Chicago, Illinois.

Fall 2010.

My review on RateBeer:

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
AHTOH (3) - San Diego, USA - OCT 23, 2010
2010 vintage. Bottled on: 09/30/10. Opened less than 1 month after bottling (10/23/10) – purchased at Super Jr. Market in San Diego, CA. 355 mL poured into Duvel glass. Beautiful amber color. Translucent. Like an actual stone of amber, yet liquid. Head dissipates relatively quickly, although leaves few small clusters of light cream-colored retention in the center as well as all around the edge of the glass. Minimal Belgian lace, almost inexistent. Light yeasty aroma. Subtle hints of vegetable-esque aromas as well as spice. Salad greens; maybe kale, spinach. Yeast aroma becomes more pronounced as ale warms up a bit. Mild mouth feel, perhaps subtle crispiness, yet leaves a very slight dry aftertaste. Yeast pronounced more in the taste than the aroma, nicely covers up portion of the hop taste. Much less hoppy than Ommegang’s Belgian Pale Ale (BPA) – a positive attribute, in my opinion. Somewhat lacking in robustness of flavor; expected little more character. Slight alcohol at back of palate. Taste like it could be a session ale, although at 7% would probably advise against this.
