Le Freak by Green Flash

Le Freak. Belgian IPA. Green Flash. Vista, San Diego County, CA.

Fall 2010.

My review on RateBeer:

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
AHTOH (9) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 24, 2010
22 ounce bottle. Poured into Bruery tulip. Appearance: Beautiful deep orange/light amber color – much darker than many triples due to it being a Belgian-IPA hybrid. Translucent. Off white head and Belgian lace appear for a short while though retention is minimal. Strong spicy as well as sweet aromas hit the nose when pouring the beer in to the glass. When bringing glass closer to nose the sweet honey and spicy yeast notes are slightly more balanced by the aroma of the hops. Hops smell more grassy/earthy than piney. Belgian style yeastiness on front of palate. Strong citrusy hops on mid palate to finish. Nice transition from sweet beginning to bitter finish, with a finish that lasts decent amount of time. Lively carbonation, mild mouth feel. Overall, enjoyed the balance between the Belgian yeast with the San Diego-style IPA. Somewhat less hoppy than I expected for a San Diego brewery – though I preferred it this way versus the alternative of being overly hoppy.
